What's Happening in This Picture #2 (+ Winning Caption)

Hello everyone!

I haven't done this series in a long time; the last time I did it was in 2018. So, I decided I wanted to revive this series. I can't remember who won the voting on the last caption, given that I did the poll a really long time ago. So, I have just chosen one caption at random:

             Winning caption by Theincompetenthuman:

Aphrodite: "Girls don't take that much time with full-length gowns nowadays. It's a shame they SKIRT around the issue. I'm not trying to sugarCOAT this, but this really is quite a HEEL"

                      The new photo to caption:

What are Z and Tenney doing? Why is Tenney holding her pencil towards the camera like that? Why is Z taking a photo of her? Submit your captions down below in the comments, and I will select my favorite ones. Then we will vote on which caption should be the winning one after that. 😉

My Thoughts on AG's New Releases (P.2)

Click here to read part one  if you haven't already

Hello everyone,

Since I just realized there are more new releases than I can put in this particular blog post, there will likely be a third or even fourth part to this series. So keep an eye out for that. 😉

Here are my thoughts:

(Image from American Girl, https://www.americangirl.com/shop/p/kiras-casual-outfit-for-18-inch-dolls-gvf47)

I don't dislike this outfit (above), but it feels very mismatched. And I feel like it would work a lot better without the vest (though I do realize the vest is supposed to go with the shoes, both of which are pink).

(Image from American Girl, https://www.americangirl.com/shop/p/kiras-outdoor-accessories-gvf55)

Here are Kira's accessories, with her "meet" outfit. I feel as if they work better without the outfit (in a different outfit) than with her  "meet" outfit. The vest alone would look good, but it doesn't look good with everything else (the glasses and scarf).

(Image from American Girl, https://www.americangirl.com/shop/p/kiras-comfy-camping-accessories-gvf53)

I feel like this was very well designed. It really looks like a place (I'd personally) use to shoot photos outside with my dolls. It looks really pretty and I am glad that it is not overly pink. The blue carpet with the table are really nice additions to the set.

(Image from American Girl, https://www.americangirl.com/shop/p/kiras-koala-pjs-for-18-inch-dolls-gvf46)

I personally really love these pajamas, and are pajamas I'd actually use for my dolls. The koala designs on the pajamas are so cute.  I also really love the koala slippers.

(Image from American Girl, https://www.americangirl.com/shop/p/american-girl-air-lines-gwn92)

This is actually a very neat idea, and kind of reminds me of the old Barbie airplanes, in particular the really a Barbie airplane (made in the sixties or the seventies?) that I used to play with. It has the same open space that old airplane used to have (minus the fact that there is no exterior that looks like an airplane).

It even comes with little details, like the compartments that can open and the fact that the TV screen can change by placing different slides into it (which is not visible here).

As I was writing this post AG released three new dolls, so I'd thought I'd talk about them....
The dolls in general are not my favorite, and they are not dolls that I'd (personally) go out of my way to buy. With their hair styles and outfits the dolls kind of remind me of the Rockerz pets that Webkinz created a while ago.

But let's talk about the singular dolls....

Though the dolls aren't my favorite I like this one the most, perhaps because she is wearing my favorite color (blue).  I could imagine being able to put the jacket/sweater she is wearing on my dolls.

(Image from American Girl, https://www.americangirl.com/shop/p/truly-me-doll-hash-91-in-girly-graffiti-plus-chic-and-stylish-accessories-06bun196)

Her hair is really neat looking, I think, given that they didn't have dolls with colored curly hair like this before.

(Image from American Girl, https://www.americangirl.com/shop/p/truly-me-doll-hash-89-in-cool-camo-plus-chic-and-stylish-accessories-06bun194)

I have to say, I really like her army uniform. American Girl hasn't made many things like this for their dolls before, that I can recollect. Also her hair is really interesting looking having some of her natural hair color (brown) with streaks of blue and green.

If I missed any (since there is going to be a part 3), tell me and I will talk about the releases in the next part.

My Thoughts on AG's New Releases (P. 1)

 Hello everyone,

I thought I'd take a look at American Girl's newest releases, since I've talked about a Girl For All Time's and Carpatina's releases in the past. Let's begin:

(image from American Girl, https://www.americangirl.com/shop/c/girl-of-the-year-kira)

I personally find that her storyline is a copy in some ways of Leah Clark's (who is one of my favorite Girls of the Year). However, it doesn't mean that they can't write a similar storyline well. Instead of Brazil, Kira travels to Australia and is protecting Koalas. I do like is that they are focusing on a real issue that is going on in Australia (the wild-fires).

However. I do wish they had chosen to create a little more of an imaginative doll to go along with the real world issue.

Leah was a popular doll and I remember going to the store and hearing a girl talk to one of the employees ask if Leah was still around. The girl was very disappointed that Leah had been retired, and I'm sure she wasn't alone, so I can see why they would make a doll like Kira.
Though I am a bit frustrated that they decided to make her blonde, given that they have a lot of blonde dolls.

(Image from American Girl, https://www.americangirl.com/shop/p/kiras-comfy-platform-tent-gvf54)

The tent is pretty, though it does feel a bit like a copy of Leah's tree house, even though  the tent is much more pink and a lot less intricate. I actually found that Luciana Vega's space station was a lot more interesting.

(Image from American Girl, https://www.americangirl.com/shop/p/world-traveler-in-ireland-and-irish-souvenir-set-for-18-inch-dolls-06bun165)

American Girl definitely decided to focus heavily on shamrocks when making this. Though I would have to say Ireland isn't all about shamrocks and four leaf clovers.

For these outfits in particular I think they cared less about capturing the feeling of the places and a little more of what foreigners think of the places or hope to see when visiting. It seems to be a recurring theme with the different places, Japan, England, France, etc.

(Image from American Girl, https://www.americangirl.com/shop/p/courtney-doll-and-book-and-courtneys-meet-accessory-05bun03)

Courtney is a historical doll, however, to me she isn't very historical, as she is from 1986.  That isn't very long ago, and I was not very psyched about the release. I almost feel as if AG should have have a separate line called "vintage dolls"  because I don't really think that Julie, Courtney, and Maryellen are really historical. (At least at the moment, in the far future they may be).

There are some other time periods that AG doesn't have dolls for. I think it would be neat if they made dolls from these time periods: 1920s, the American Victorian period, or they could even focus on the suffragettes more (Samantha did have the suffragettes in her story, but her aunt was against it for most of the story, and it was only a small subplot). The dolls from these periods would have really beautiful clothes and I feel like dolls from recent times don't have such cool clothes as dolls from the time periods I just listed.

(Image from American Girl, https://www.americangirl.com/shop/p/courtneys-pleasant-company-doll-grn50)

One thing I thought was interesting about this collection, is that they have a doll which is a smaller one of their larger dolls (Molly) and retired dolls. Now, a larger doll can have their own Pleasant Company version of Molly.  (Molly hasn't yet returned but may in the future return to the Beforever line).

Also what I find neat about it, is that the doll has Molly's original  book and has the Pleasant Company doll magazine.

(Images from American Girl,
here, here, and here)

American girl recently made dolls with colored hair. Out of all them I actually prefer the doll with purple hair, since the color isn't too bright for me. And I think the hair really fits her, and it doesn't look as if she is wearing a wig with her natural hair hidden underneath.

Fun Things to Do During the Winter Holidays (post by Tenney and Z)

Hello everyone, this is Z and Tenney sending holiday cheer!

We hope you're having a happy third day of Hanukah!  Or a good Christmas Eve, if you celebrate Christmas, or are looking forward to Kwanzaa which begins in two days, or had a good Winter Solstice, or are enjoying whichever holiday you celebrate since there are so many around the globe.
We thought to make everyone feel welcome, we would make a post that everyone would enjoy, and not feel left out of.

Here are some fun things to do over the winter holidays...

1. Do a winter themed stop motion animation.

I (Z) always love doing stop motion animations with my AG dolls (and my other dolls as well). It can be fun to do stop motions that have themes related to winter.

2. Take photos outside of your doll in the snow*

*If it snows where you are. You may want to be careful about what types of dolls you bring out for this. If it is an American girl doll, Carpantia, or a Girl For All Time, there is a possibility that their eyes may rust or they may get damaged.

I (Z) love doing this, since the photos I take tend to turn out beautiful when it is snowing, and it gives it really festive feel.

3. Write a winter themed song

This is an activity that I (Tenney) enjoy doing during the holidays. The song could be about the snow flakes falling down and how beautiful it is this time of the year.

4. Film a music video or video outside side in the snow*

*if it snows where you are.

This has a cool (quite literately) effect to it, that both of us can agree on. And it makes it even better if your song or movie has a winter theme to it.

5. Read winter/holiday related books to get into the spirit of the holidays

There are so many fun winter related books to read during the holidays, whether they be about your holiday or merely winter itself.

Happy holidays!

Autumn is in the Air (a photoshoot)

Happy autumn everyone! To begin the autumn season (which is going to be filled with posts about Halloween), I thought I would post a fall-themed photoshoot of Carol:

I like how Carol's hair is hiding her face a little in this one.

I really like Carol's pose in this photo.

I like the layout of this photo.

I like the layout of this photo, and the way her face is hidden
slightly behind her hair.

I also really like the view in this photo.

My Doll's New Year's Resolutions 2019

Happy New Year's everyone!
I did this last year, so I thought I would do it again this year.  This year, though, I am doing my American Girl dolls' and Carpatina doll's resolutions. Here are my dolls' resolutions:

                                                 Sarah's Resolution

"I want to work in colonial Williamsburg eventually next year as a historical re-enactor."

                                                 Felicity's Resolution

"I want to learn how to fully
master my time travel abilities. I haven't quite yet figured them out."

                                                 Z's Resolution

"...well, since I have been doing so many AGSMs (American Girl Stop Motions), I thought
it would be cool to try doing hand-drawn animation or claymation next year."

Alfred's Resolution

"I hope that next year, I can help the Patriots in some way against the Red Coats.
I am not sure how I will I do it, but I will figure that out as next year commences...

                                             Tenney's Resolution

"Next year I want to release an album or a single."

                      -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
What are your dolls' New Year's resolutions?
                                 Love,
                                 Quinley

P.S. The next part of Red Coats on the Horizon is almost ready.

Red Coats on the Horizon (part 1): It Started With a Song

I changed my mind about which photo story I would post. Instead of posting the other AG doll story, that I lost somewhere, I decided that this one would be better (since this one has more of a plot to it, and I had more fun taking these photos). The only thing that I wish I had done for this photo story is to dress my dolls in clothes for fall (since they were wearing summer clothes).

Felicity held tightly onto her horse’s mane. She could feel the sweat on her hands.

She couldn’t let go, she couldn’t or the Red Coats would catch up to her…she couldn’t…

Do you wonder how Felicity ended up being chased by Red Coats? Well, it didn’t start out like that, in fact it started with a song, yes a song.
And no not a song like Yankee Doodle, or any of those songs that you may think I mean…but a song by someone no other than Tenney.

You see she had been suffering from songwriter’s block, and couldn’t come up with a new song…

“Bravo!” shouted Z,
Felicity smiled, “It’s beautiful.”

“Thank you.” sighed Tenney, “but that’s one of my old songs, and I am trying to come up with a new one…but I have no ideas what so ever…that’s why I asked you, Felicity and Z for advice…perhaps you two have ideas.”

Z thought for a moment and then said,
“You could write a song about American Girl dolls…You have never written a song about them.”

Tenney nodded, “maybe…” she then turned to look at Felicity,
“Do you have any ideas?”

Felicity sighed and stood there for a few minutes and then said slowly,

“Let me think about it…once I have an idea, I will be sure to tell you.”

“Thank you…” sighed Tenney, you could tell that she was rather disappointed that the songwriter part of her mind was not working.
“Anyway,” she said, “I better go…I have a show to practice for.”
“Bye!” said Z and Felicity at the same time.

Felicity then turned to Z, “I better go, too!” Before Z could even say “goodbye” to her, Felicity had gone around the corner of the tree, and vanished.

She sighed and muttered a very small, “goodbye” and then looked around.

A smile appeared on her face, “This would be the perfect place to do a stop motion.”

Felicity sighed, and looked down at her necklace, the time travel had worked.

And oh good, Elizabeth was still there…

“Lissie!” she said, turning around, “Good that you're still here, I wondered what happened to you…”
“Oh nothing.” responded Felicity. “Just thought I should enjoy the fresh air you know, anyway…you seem a little bit jumpy are you alright?”

“I’m f-fine.” responded Elizabeth, and then turned to look around, and then stared back at Felicity,

“Alright, I’m not fine…I will tell you what happened, but we can’t talk about it here.”
Felicity nodded, and they began walking through the forest. As they were walking, Felicity realized she had forgotten to hide her necklace. Thankfully Elizabeth had been too nervous to notice it.

While they were walking Felicity quickly stuffed the necklace in her dress. She sighed and then turned to Elizabeth. They had made it half way through the forest and were nearly to the town of Williamsburg, perhaps she would be ready to talk about whatever it was now.

“Elizabeth, do you think this a good place to talk about it?” asked Felicity, and promptly leaned onto the branch that was in the center of their path.

Elizabeth shook her head, “No, Felicity, it’s not.” she half whispered, and then began walking again.

They had nearly made it out of the forest and Felicity was fighting back the desire to ask again. It felt like a pain inside of her. What had scared her best friend? What was going on with her? Felicity sighed, well she could at least ask one thing,

“Where do you exactly want to talk?” asked Felicity.

Elizabeth seemed to be deep in thought, finally after a little bit she said,
“How about somewhere like your father’s store…but it must be somewhere were no one can hear what we are saying.”
Felicity nodded, at least she knew where Elizabeth wanted to talk, but what did she want to tell her? The pain of not knowing still firmly enveloped Felicity, she couldn’t let something like that hurt her best friend.

To be continued....

-------------------------------------------------------------
What do you think Elizabeth is going to tell Felicity?
And do you think Tenney will get out of songwriter's block?
Love,
Quinley

P.S. I just finished a AGSM (American Girl Stop Motion) video, here it is:
